     December 30th.
My mom recently celebrated her 50th birthday with style—hosting a gala size event for her nearest and dearest. Here are the pictures from that memorable day.

Ruhi Book 1
    December 25th.
It looks like I will be beginning and having  a Ruhi Book 1: Reflections of the Life of the Spirit on December 28, 29, 30, and a date in very early January. If you are interested, or know anyone that is please contact me (or 841-8999) as soon as possible. This will be held in the East end of Ottawa.

UPDATE: Pictures of Study Circle! With 5 new  videos!

December 25th.  A quick reminder. On December 31st, on New Year's night, we will be having a mega-CARDevotional at my house. The dress is semi-formal and the amount of games and activities endless. Because there is a limited amount of space please RSVP for yourself and your friends as quickly as possible and read more details.

December 24th. My brother Brian's travels will be painstakingly documented and commented on throughout his 3-week visit. Below, on the right side, you will find a link to him under 'Favorite Pages' Last updated: Dec 26, 4:00pm

Joubin and Roxanna's Wedding

December 23rd.  MartinsQuest.com would like to proudly present the first public images of Joubin Roxanna's elegant wedding.

Neo, from the Matrix, saying "Hmm upgrades"

   December 22nd.
I hope you enjoy the site upgrades. I felt that the previous blue splash page was a hindrance and the old personal page was lazily arranged. In this new layout I introduce many new elements: random quotes from myself and the Bahá'í Faith, random pictures of friends, a regular poll, and Canadian resident search tools. Much remains to be done, but I hope that this is just the beginning of many exciting iterations that this site will go through. -Martin

December 20th.  So, its Joubin's big day today, getting married to the beautiful Roxanna, and I'm going to their wedding. Now, do I...
A) Go to their 'registered' store and get them something nice, or
B) Just get them the standard Martin/Vafa present?
Obviously option 'B'. (wedding pics are on their way!)

December 19th.  As indicated by my article on Canadian filesharing laws, it appears to be legal to download but illegal to upload mp3s in Canada. Besides the general good counsel to obey the laws of the land, I've just learned that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) may be suing huge uploaders of music in the new year. These are people that share 1000s of songs. In Kazaa Lite you can select "Disable sharing of files with other users," in the tools menu, but regardless should undoubtedly select "Do not function as supernode," since only supernodes have been sued in the United States. Again, it is important to follow the laws of the land out of love, but the next level of adherences is out of fear of punishment.

December 19th.  Although Vafa's got me hooked on DS9, Star Trek: The Next Generation remains my clear favorite. Although their movies haven't been large commercial successes, I would like to pay homage to their last movie Nemesis, one which I enjoyed, with a Photoshop alteration.

December 17th.  How do I reward myself for cleaning my entire room? By taking pictures and creating a 360 degree panorama! Best not judged on purely artistic standards; its far from beautiful. Judge it rather on concept, close-ups, and design. I mean where else can you snoop in someone's room with impunity, scan a bookshelf anonymously, or look over their personal items with nary a consequence?

December 16th.  A joint effort from Tassnim and Misagh:

There once was a man from Orleans,
who loved to eat meat, not beans,
              he loved to make sites,
through the long days and nights,
But in winter wore neither jacket nor jeans.

December 15th.  A MartinsQuest.com site upgrade is on the way. Prepare yourselves. Also, only 5 tickets remain for Lord of the Rings. In addition, my dad proudly turns 50 today. Plus, some of Tazz's poetry may appear online soon.

New Creation CD coverDecember 15th.  In Gainesville, while attending University of Florida, I was ensorcelled with the song "Let All Associate," by New Creation. There are a local Bahai folk band with real talent and an original catchy song that I would find myself humming between classes—the only song I would try to get stuck in my head. So now you can listen to this captivating song and if you want to order one for $7 Canadian, my brother will bring it up for you to save on the shipping.

December 15th.  Programmers for "Return of the King" battle scenes created individualized soldiers who could think for themselves. Problems arose when the soldiers decided to flee for their lives rather than engage in battle. Update: now with a link.

December 13th.  Yesterday Vafa hosted an excellent Lord of the Rings Devotional. He set the record for longest movie devotional in Ottawa's history at a staggering 14+ hours! Here are a few of the pictures I took. Also, don't forget to RSVP to watch the third installment this Wednesday with 20 of us!

December 13th.  It pains me to be right all the time. Just yesterday the Copyright Board of Canada reaffirmed its levy on blank media (like CDRs) but also affirmed the right of Canadians to download or copy music from any source and store it indefinitely. Read my original position paper or read the reaction from a few media outlets.

Brian, my brother    December 13th.  In about 7 days my brother Brian, age 21, will be gracing Ottawa for about 3 weeks.  If you want to know what all of my perfections look like when joined with the lofty qualities of affability, compassion, extroversion, and kindness you may want to make a special effort to befriend him while he's here. Unfortunately he is infertile, so all of the ladies keep your distance! Also, he will doing Book 1: Reflections on the Life of the Spirit and Book 2: Arising to Serve intensively so you may want to sign up for those.

December 13th.  My Quest may be over. I might have found my soul mate, someone to spend the rest of my life with. Someone whose mere presence is my solace and her absence my torment. With a character so magnanananimous that they lengthened the word; possessing beauty so rarefied that it ignites her surroundings into fiery glory; with a heart so pure that blood finds other passage.
So, a sincere declaration of undying love or another shameless publicity stunt aimed to publicize the unveiling of another bachelorette profile? I think the latter.

December 13th.  I received this scam warning from a friend by e-mail and feel that it is worthy of your attention. It concerns a discount club called UCC TotalHome/DirectBuy that is supposed to save you money after purchasing a $3,000+ membership. After reading this, should you find merit you may want to alert parents, neighbors, and friends.

December 12th.  As most of you know the new prime minister of Canada is Paul Martin. Why is that such good news? It heralds a brand new section of my website: 'Funny Martin Quotes.' You see, news outlets will be filled with captions such as "Martin speaks to US President," or "Martin takes on the Canadian Military." Just clip these from the newspaper or from magazines and either scan them in for me or give them directly to me.

December 12th.  My cousin in Montreal is conducting an ethics survey on music downloading for her class. If you have 5 minutes to spare and are interested in filling it out, click here. If you are bored and just want to goof around, click here.

December 11th.  This Wednesday, December 17th I am purchasing 20 tickets for the 8:00pm debut of "LOTR: The Return of the King." If interested, tickets are $10, and seats are not guaranteed unless you show up at 6:00pm and remain in queue. Please encourage your friends to join us as well. Update: 15 people attended, I sold back the last 5 tickets.

December 11th.  Last Sunday I had the good-pleasure of serving alongside Aram in teaching spiritual education and virtues to 5-6 year olds in Bahá'í class. Wow. Little I had done previously, save training in Ruhi Book 3: Teaching Children's Classes, could have prepared me to instruct a dozen children for two hours. Interestingly, I successfully led a group in singing, "Shine your Light on me," and playing, "All my Friends." Wow.

December 10th.  Andisheh's Birthday pictures are displayed now in all of their glory. Was the delay worth it? You decide. Update: The gift from Vafa and I is now posted. (Right click 'save as')

December 10th.  I finally fixed the above menu. Could a site upgrade be on the way? Hmm... while we're on rumors look for a new bachelor and bachelorette in the next few days. I have also given quite a bit of thought to my next philosophical article, "Spiritual Dating," as a subset of my "Love" theory...ooh, all these upcoming goodies.

December 7th. Arash and I served as 'animators' for a jr. youth study circle called 'Breezes of Confirmation' last Friday which aims to instill the power of expression and a closer tie to the creator. Here is an unedited picture of both of  us.

December 7th.  Last summer at the Montreal Conference I used the word 'legalistic' as part of my discourse among a few friends in the lobby. Zeta Jones was there and quickly asserted, with unreserved confidence that such a word was not a member of English community. I asked her if she was sure to which she responded that she was. Later that day I looked it up and discovered that not only was it a word but I had used it correctly. In fact, I had not only used it correctly, but perfectly, and there was nary a better word in the lexicon.
Last night when hanging out with the youth I used the word 'complainant.' Again, Zeta attacked me saying that such a word did not exist in the language. An immediate peek in the dictionary revealed that not only was it a word but figuratively I had used it correctly. In fact, I had not only used it correctly, but perfectly, and there was no better word to use.
Stay tuned for more stories of rebuke leveled against this unimpeachable sesquipedalian.

December 7th. I was collecting footage of when I scaled Mt. Everest this summer and found this nice panorama.

December 2nd.   The opportunity was too tempting to pass up. I snapped a flash-washed image of Misagh that had a slight resemblance to the King of Pop. All I had to do was digitally bleach his skin, enlarge his eyes, manipulate his lips, 'thin' the image, purse and shrink his snoz, and otherwise warp Mees's Adonis-like features into this frightful mutation. Mees, please forgive me.

Michael Jackson & Misagh
Obviously used with explicit and loving permission from Misagh.

December 1st.  An amazing 9-hour internationally-themed CARDevotional just took place and here are the pictures. We look forward to seeing most of you at the mega-huge-monstro-enorm-coloss-New-Year's-Eve-CARDevotional. Details to come.

November 27th.  Today is my brother Justin's 18th birthday. What gift did he want? A new video game, a better graphics card, or a surprise party? No! His only request was inclusion onto the bachelors page! So imagine my sadness in explaining why the high standards I'd established precluded such an addition. In other words, look for him in the upcoming weeks. Update: Rama Hashemi's 18th birthday is the same exact day. E-mail him and show him love!

November 27th.  One of my favorite holy day celebrations, the Ascension of 'Abdu'l-Bahá, begins tonight at 1:00am. Besides spiritual edification, few things beat seeing otherwise pious adults yawning uncontrollably.

November 26th.  I was pleased to finish 3 separate Book 6: Teaching the Cause courses last night. It was great working with: Zahra, Julie, Sahba, Iris, Louis, Wendy, Bernie, & Kamran. See group photo.

November 25th.  REMINDER:  This Saturday, the 29th, our family will be hosting our 8th CARDevotional at 7:00pm (not 8:00 like we normally would) We will be hosting a potluck dinner, as it will have an international theme and focus on the oneness of mankind.
We are asking everyone to either, "Bring a friend, or meet a friend," as a practical means in which we can bring happiness and friendliness to the world of humanity. Also, if possible. you may bring food that represents your cultural, social, or ethnic background.

November 25th.  I appear on TV as part of this year's Unity in Diversity Celebrations in the Rideau Centre. See the video and the pictures.

November 25th.  I am going to Montreal all-day Tuesday. If you want to get a hold of me, re-read first sentence.

November 23rd.  A group of us had a great time at Jaleh's 23rd Birthday Party. Here is the photographic evidence.

November 19th.  Yesterday a bunch of us chilled at Vafa's house for fun and games. What was incredible however, that we discovered at the end, was the diversity of ages of the six friends present. Are you ready for this? 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28!

November 17th.  I would like to apologize to my loyal viewers. Because of illness and an increased workload there will be very few updates to the site for the next week or so. But click here to download some content that will take you ages to view. You can also see my low-class presentation of the Birth of Baha'u'llah after party at Vafa's.

November 14th.  Pictures of the Birth of Bahá'u'lláh Celebration are now posted.

November 14th.  Recently, Aram asked me what type of music I liked. With eclectic tastes and a poor memory I had difficulty answering him at the time but promised him that I would include a list on my website.

November 14th.  Happy Birthday Vafa! As a present to him I'd like to provide a link to his website that perchance his hit counter, a wellspring of happiness to him, may increase. As a gift to the world, I would like to debunk one salient aspect of Vafa's duplicitous machismo.

November 13th.  For the past 4 days Tazz and I changed our MSN screen names to "I just ended a 4-month relationship with Martin/Tazz" respectively. It engendered quite the response! Was it true? What happened? Here are the responses followed by the truth.

November 12th.  There are dozens of movie sequels that are released each year. My idea is just to combine different movies into one. Here are some examples. As for originality, it was completely my idea to post it here.

November 12th.  My female stalker unveiled herself. Many of my assumptions about her identity were correct, yet I will never disclose her name publicly. Did she love Martin Braithwaite? No...the Quest continues.

November 11th.  My hotmail account is giving me problems so I am switching to using a MartinsQuest account with 100MB of space. This will likely serve me for the next 5 years so I want to make it good.  I need your help. Please suggest a good name, and if I choose it, I'll place the tag, "Suggested by [your name]" at the bottom for a month or so.

November 11th.  Thank you Elly Lecorre for this link to a humorous yet substantive knock off of the Matrix. Despite being a self-professed 'meat-a-tarian' I can sympathize with their cause.

November 11th. Here is my new software page, that contains information and links to free/cheap/great software. I will constantly update the list and welcome any suggestions.

November 9th.  In case you, like I, missed yesterday's lunar eclipse.

November 7th.  I have begun the ambitious task of compiling pictures of all of my friends in the world. Although it seems like a great idea, only bad things can happen as people will inevitably feel left outeither by a careless oversight or conscious omission. Most people would labor day and night to perfect it before posting it, but not me! Wisdom and I have never been on speaking terms.

November 7th.  I believe that a little bit of rebellion and spontaneity can be a good thing. Not a fan of drugs or alcohol, I believe that there are plenty of ways to be responsibly irresponsible. Last night, for example, a casual 8:30pm game of Roaké with Sham, Elmo, and Unc, turned into a 14-hour marathon until 10:30am with Sham, Payam, and Vafawho joined us from Kanata at 2:30am!

November 5th.  We had a blast at the Matrix on Wednesday; almost not wanting to leave. But as the Oracle says, 'Everything with a beginning...has an end.' Here are the pictures.

November 4th. Are you tired of paying money just to make calls within Ottawa? MartinsQuest.com has a free solution. Just dial 688-FREE (3733) before the call (you may want to add this to speed dial—or just visit this website :) and the call is free (supported by a 1 - 15 second advertising blurb). No strings attached, just free calling! Have fun!

November 3rd.  I am buying 48 tickets for 43 confirmed people to see Matrix: Revolutions on Wednesday at 8:00pm at SilverCity. If you want one of the remaining 5 tickets please call me immediately. PLEASE BE AT THE THEATRE BY 6:25pm.

Please bring $10 cash (ATM available) to buy ticket from me.

November 3rd.  As I continually strive to bring my actions in conformity with the laws of the land, I present the Canadian laws of file sharing as an update to my October 30th post.

November 1st.  A group of Catholic School girls are being hailed as heroes for attacking a man that repeatedly exposed himself in front of their school in probably the biggest perversion of justice I have seen this year. After 'Bobby' apprehended the man down the street, and before the police officers could arrive, the man was surrounded and brutally punched and kicked by the crazed crowd.
Now, I can understand being rough with him in the process of restraining him, but what happened here clearly fell outside of that range. If someone goes through a stop sign, around which children are playing, do you chase him down and beat him? How is this different from a lynch mob? Justice is clearly intended for institutions to administer, not impassioned bystanders.  I include a quote from Emerson:

"A mob is a society of bodies voluntarily bereaving themselves of reason...The mob is man voluntarily descending to the nature of the beast...Its actions are insane like its whole constitution. It persecutes a principle; it would whip a right; it would tar and feather justice, by inflicting fire and outrage upon the houses and persons of those who have these...The inviolate spirit turns their spite against the wrongdoers."

Ralph Waldo Emerson, Essays: First Series, Compensation

A story that really stirred me was one where a Klansman found himself in the protest section of a KKK rally and was being beaten mercilessly by enraged protestorsuntil a lady came to his rescuea black lady. She shielded him from the blows and screamingly implored the crowd for mercy and reason. They relented their hate-filled attack and the man was escorted safely away.
If one of those girls had wanted to be a hero she no doubt would have taken a similar action. How can someone in love with Christ and his counsel of 'turn the other cheek' and 'let him without sin throw the first stone,' conscionably assault this defenseless man? And how even more absurd is the hero designation that is so quickly being given to these vigilantes? I leave you with a quote from Bahá'u'lláh:

"O SON OF SPIRIT!

The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice; turn not away therefrom if thou desirest Me, and neglect it not that I may confide in thee. By its aid thou shalt see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others, and shalt know of thine own knowledge and not through the knowledge of thy neighbor. Ponder this in thy heart; how it behooveth thee to be. Verily justice is My gift to thee and the sign of My loving-kindness. Set it then before thine eyes."

Bahá'u'lláh, The Hidden Words

October 31st.  I auto-created a 270 degree panorama of downtown from the Lees complex using 8 still photos in Ulead's Cool 360 program. It would have been much better had I used a tripod and stood in the same place. Oh well.

October 31st.  Now see 'Cluster Love' in it's first live performance, and other pre-production clips. Broadband recommended.

October 30th. Don't forget this Saturday at 8:00pm Matrix CARDevotional:

If you live out West, strongly consider going to Vafa's mirror Matrix Devotional, although, as always, you are more than welcome at both.

October 30th.  My website appeared to be down from 5:30am to 7:30pm, so I contacted customer support, to receive this message:

"The server that your site is hosted on has been hacked.
The hacker has taken the server completely down.
We have contacted the FBI, and are awaiting a response.
We currently have a team of skilled technicians working on fixing the server right now.
We estimate between one to four hours of possible downtime.
DO NOT open a tech support ticket telling us your site is down. This will only slow our ability to fix your site.
Thank you for your patience."

October 30th.  Another tragic consequence of being so high profile is attracting crazies (female stalkers). They just come out of the woodwork. Take the most recent one, a young lady who e-mails me from iluvemartinbraithwaite@hotmail.com. I am offering a $5 reward to whoever can provide me with information leading to her identification, (name, real e-mail, home address, phone number, approx. age, etc). Here are the facts I've compiled thus far:

  • Name: (Update: She revealed herself)

  • Temp E-mail: iluvemartinbraithwaite@hotmail.com

  • IP address: xx.xxx.xxx.xxx (removed)

  • IP info: Ottawa-HSE-ppp261453.sympatico.ca's Network Provider (ISP): bellglobal.com

  • Location: Ottawa

  • Friends: Not too close to my inner circle of friends, unfamiliar with certain inner-group expressions.

  • Her quote: "You've never seen me perhaps."

  • Hobbies: playing football, badminton and tarot (could be false)

  • Other: Uses MSN under a different screen name. I have a feeling that she is young based on her simple syntax and childish expressions...perhaps a younger 'idolizing' youth. I can sense a certain 'teenage impatience' in her messages (e-mail and IM).

  • Suggestion: Add her to your MSN list and try to extract as much information as possible.

October 30th.  Copying Music: the Answer

This may be the most exciting thing to come out of MartinsQuest.com which I am very proud to announce. I was researching Canadian copyright law and here is what I have found:

  • You can make personal copies of CDs that your friends bought.

  • Your friends can make personal copies of your CDs that you bought.

  • You cannot make copies for anyone, neither can copies be made for you.

  • Sharing files (to friends but especially to the public) is a clear violation of the law.

  • Downloading and burning music however does not violate the letter of the law in Canada.

  • The legal right to privately copy music has been justified by way of a levy that applies to blank media such as blank CDs.

  • There is currently a $0.21 levy on CDR/Ws and  a $0.77 levy on CDR/W-audio, contributing, in 2002 alone, over $26 million to authors (66%), performers (19%), and makers (15%).

Read my more in-depth analysis with sources here.

October 28th.  A large group of us is planning on seeing Matrix:Revolutions when it comes out on Wednesday November 5th. Stay tuned to RSVP. Some people don't understand my love for Carrie Ann Moss, but I think she is the total package.

October 27th.  Yesterday Ottawa had a great Reflection Meeting. There was guidance, skits, Subway subs, a live video feed from Paris, and even a rap performance.

October 23rd.  A scary term, 'Survival job.'

October 22nd.  A milestone has been reached!  In less than 2 months of being live, compassionate viewers of my website have sympathetically visited Vafa's  website 1000 times. (300 if you take out his own hits)  I'd like to thank all those who have have sacrificed their time and energy to encourage and support this up-and-comer, despite the paucity of interesting material contained therein. I'm sure he looks forward to your patronage for many more sympathy milestones. -Martin

October 21st.  Another memorable contribution to Vafa Look-Alikes ©. One more and I'll have to create a new page! Two portions can be clicked on to reveal the high quality original.

Vafa Hashemi & Popeye

October 19th.  I'm off to Montreal with my family today for a 12-hour visit. We'll see my dad and my wonderful step-mom Carla as we tour the city that gave birth to me.

October 18th.  I just finished watching the professional play "The Dress of Mona," by King Fisher's Theatre. The story of Mona was an inspirational one that swelled certain subcutaneous ocular glands.

October 15th. On Saturday, November 1st we plan on holding a Matrix-themed CARDevotional. We'll watch both movies, with plenty of Matrix inspired games and activities in between. The first movie will be over by 11:30pm. Matrix: Reloaded will start around 1:30am, and is intended primarily for hard-core fans. We will also be seeing Matrix: Revolutions when it comes out 4 days later on Wednesday. Stay tuned for those details.

October 15th. SCARY: A 6-year-old Florida boy had his fingers bitten off while he was sleeping! Read more with video.

October 14th.  I'm breaking protocol and blindly trusting a friend. :)  A____ e-mailed me a link to this song which he said was hilarious. I cannot by nature agree with him because this remix of 50-Cent's In Da Club is in Farsi. So here is the link or (here)

October 13th.  On September 18th, at 5:46pm I recorded this quote from somebody. However, in dictating it onto my camera I forgot to say who said it, although the person's voice is in the background. Please help me identify the person, or fess up if it was your quote! Update: Gordon approached me and said, 'didn't I say that,' to which I responded, 'Yes you did; yes, you did.'

October 12th. In university I was introduced to spoken wordthe marriage of poetry, music (or at it's essence, rhythm) and performance. It is accentuating the rhythmic elements inherent in a poetic work, or adding a rhythm, or rhythms, to a poetic workthereby expanding the texture, the context, and possibly the meaning of the work. You can accentuate these rhythmic elements through your verbal delivery, or you can add music (through a variety of instruments and vocalization), or both.
Here is my very first spoken word, titled "Love." updated: Oct 13th.

    October 10th.
The little engine that could. I just came back from a 3-on-3 basketball game at Lees in which some magical things happened. (Playing were Payam, Vafa, Andrew, two Lees Latinos, and myself) I played amazingly well, even garnering the unofficial MVP honors for one of the games. This is remarkable because I was unarguably the least skilled of the lot, with my size also at the bottom of the barrel. Everyone brought it, but my game was celestial—modesty aside of course.

October 9th.  P. is the only person I know who will talk trash even though deep down he knows that his charges lack any support in the contingent world. Despite beating him in tennis 6 months agoin an albeit close, tie-breaker matchhis rhetoric has waxed stronger and his demeanor has noticeably toughened. This, all despite the patent superiority of my game as observed by any dispassionate observer. Equilibrium fought a tough battle to find the correct balance as I dealt P. a devastating 6-1 loss in front of a close peer. He was no match for my service guns, vicious volleys, and overhead thunder.

October 9th  I've got permission to post a really funny movie-poster. Please laugh, enjoy it with your friends, and stay posted for the finished product. How I got consent for this I'll never know.

October 8th.  Thanks Sarah for your Vafa look-alike suggestion. Here it is in unfinished form. If anyone else wants to give their suggestions, please don't delay. And before anyone says that Vafa doesn't look like anyone/anything, let me just say that  agree...he doesn't even look like his own dad if you know what I'm sayin'.

Vafa Hashemi & Freddie Prinze Jr.

Vafa compared to Freddie Prinze Jr. What a dink!

October 7th. On August 22nd I uncovered evidence of a dishonest arm-wrestler. Recently, I discovered more intel that definitively paints this character as a cheater. In this minute of déjà vu I rest my case your honour.

October 6th.  I slept for 16 hours after a blood-rushing day of paintball in Quebec with 19 other combatants. Armed with 'markers' (don't say guns) and a barrel of 'paint' (don't say paintballs--the establishment is trying to move away from its military background) we ran through trees and along trails opening fire against enemies and teammates alike! I registered only a few kills, while being tagged by Sahba 3 times. This might have been the youth committee's most successful event to date, and look to Vafa to postofficially or otherwisethe pictures of this institutionally sanctioned bloodletting. See a few unofficial pictures.
UPDATE: see Vafa

October 6th.  An interesting article on "Urban Tribes," something I feel we've sorta developed with the Ottawa youth.

October 5th.  Paintball is today at 9:30am. It is a damn shame that I was playing cards with Sham, Unc, and Dru Hill until 7:00am.

October 4th. I was talking on MSN to Tazz, and telling her about the raps that I've been doing with Vafa and his brother and sister. She asked if she knew Vafa's sister. I said 'maybe' and then sent her this picture. (They had talked for almost 30 mins at the CARDevotional!) She was, to say the least, embarrassed.

October 3rd.  Don't forget to make periodic monthly trips to my philosophical page to scan for updates.

September 29th. CARDevotionals now have a new page to call home: www.CARDevotional.tk Includes pictures and description. Took over 7 hours to create.

     September 29th.
Vafa continues to raise the bar. Here is his Ottawa look-alikes page that even disses my brother and me. If you know who HE looks like, please tell me!

     September 28th.
I feel that I must extend a big fat apology to my friends in Ottawa. My sloppily worded e-mail and web posting insinuated that invitations to those living outside of the Orleans area was contingent upon bringing a friend. The phrase in question, "Although geared for those who live in the Orleans/ Cumberland/ Sector-1 area, if you live outside that area you are welcome to attend--hopefully providing that you can bring a few friends as well. :)," was meant to get people thinking about their friends who might be interested to come but were never invited.
Unfortunately it came across too strongly; suggesting that it was somehow exclusively for those meeting the above 'parameters.' Notwithstanding, upon learning of the truth mere hours before the event, over 20 forgiving youth showed up, in style, to have off-the-wall fun 'till 4:00am. For this I am grateful. Martin.

September 24th.  Many websites have cheesy guest books. A few have a cheesy bulletin board. Well I've just assembled a Wiki board. What is a Wiki board you ask? It is a page that can be edited by anyone and any information shared. So please give me your thoughts on this idea, its potential, and any other stray thoughts you may have. Also see my Bahá'í challenge.

September 23rd. The next mega CARDevotional is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th, at 8:00pm, after the 3pm city-wide Feast.  Although geared for those who live in the Orleans/Cumberland/Sector-1 area, if you live outside that area you are welcome to attend--hopefully providing that you can bring a few friends as well. :) Please RSVP!

September 23rd.  PAINTBALL !! Check out all of the salacious details at Vafa's website. Also see the hilarious mock-pictures he made of the event. He's talented!

September 23rd.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but I was switching servers. So to update your hyperlinks, replace 'bahaiunityclub.com/martinsquest' with 'martinsquest.com.' Other than that, enjoy the new features that a private server will now afford me.

September 22nd. Never one to put anyone else in a box, or label them, I'd just like to prove something to someone online. Would you disagree if someone described the skin color of the girl on the right as brown? Or is there clearly a better word to describe her complexion?

Votes so far:
  "Brown" -anon
  "
Dark skinned" or in French: "Métis" - A
  "Hot Chocolate" - K
"Brown" everybody's skin is a shade of brown even me -S
  "Brown" - J

     September 20th.
Douglas Martin will be speaking on Saturday, September 26th, at 7:00pm in Toronto. If you would like more information just send me your name and e-mail address. (Unfortunately, I am unable to attend).

September 19th.
Who's leg is this?

 Guesses:

  • Payam - 2
  • Sham - 7
  • Vafa - 1

  Actual: Sham

September 15th.  Is Vafa overweight? And if so, is he trying to hide it? Look carefully at the evidence taken from his very own website. (used with explicit permission)

September 12th.  Update...until I find a job I will only be updating the website on weekends. Sorry to all of my die-hard fans, but this seems to be the only way to get my priorities re-prioritized. Please continue to enjoy the site and if you have any complaints, just click this ill-advised link here.

September 12th.  Aya had a birthday recently. Here are those pictures.

September 11th.  I have been keeping up with taking pictures, believe it or not, and most are ready on my new pictures page. (including the long-awaited Risk and Montana's pictures)  From now on, if I have small batches I'll just place them on that page instead of taking up valuable room on this one. Also, a few mis-quotes were added.

September 11th.  Ever wonder where visitors to MartinsQuest.com came from? Now there is a 'World Visitors' section to satiate your curiosity.

September 8th.  As a report of how my experience was at the "A Perfect Circle" concert, suffice it to say that I renamed the group, "Aperfect Circle," and "A Perfect Circus." The only thing that saved me from this electric-guitar-smashing, techno-rock-cacophony was a pocket-sized copy of the Hidden Words that I had smuggled into the concert. Brief 30 minute breaks with this outside of the concert doors proved to be my savior. Update: Justin appreciated this commentary.

Sept 6th.  As a service to my loyal fans, I will trace the infectious disease that has arrived here via British Columbia. It started with Sahba as she brought her 6-week-and-counting cold to Ottawa. Homa was the first to catch it, then Vafa, me, and Andrew. Now Gordon, Mees, and Justin are battling the symptoms. Is this justification for xenophobia? No, but it doesn't mean that we can't make adjustment difficult for her. No, I'm joking...welcome to Ottawa, Sahba!

Sept 5th.  I was working on building an animated gif for my MSN 6.0 picture. Instead of manually switching pictures, which at least in my eyes makes it look like you're trying too hard, I decided to automate the procedure. It didn't work for MSN, but here it is for your enjoyment.

Sept 5th.  Two new Martin-style riddles on my growing philosophical page.

Sept 4th.  Vafa has some amazing content on his website but was hitherto paralyzed by the mistaken notion that it needs to be perfect before he posts it. This included a joint project with me that saw Tupac's Changes rap evolve into Ottawa. It is now presented here in all of it's glory by rappers DJ Martin & Funk Master Vafa.

September 4th.  Let the games begin. Here is a quote taken word-for-word from Marc's quickly assembled website, "Elly was born in shiraz, Iran, at the age of 13." Personally, I had never heard of anyone being born that late in life, but I guess Elly was the exception!

September 2nd.  My brother Justin convinced me to accompany him to "A Perfect Circle" concert on the 5th. I'm not inclined to go, but if there is anyone who has a car, and is over 18, and would like to take my place...please let me know.

September 2nd.  Marc Lecorre has just entered the Ottawa website scene  and has his humble offering is available here.

August 31st.  A bunch of us went out to Montana's all-you-can-eat ribs tonight. It was great, punctuated by Gordon's salt-in-water gag pulled on a defenseless Homa. Watch 2.4MB.

August 30th.  A few dozen pictures of yet another intensive Book 6 study circle with the Ziaei's and Sahba.

August 30th.  Coming home from the West end of town I was treated to a wonderful display of hot air balloons that littered the path. Taken at 120+ Km/h from my sunroof, I hope you can appreciate the shots. (Not that interesting)

August 30th.  I'm so proud of University of Florida's Bahá'í Unity Club for overhauling their website. Each iteration the site takes seems to be an improvement by an order of magnitude. Congratulations to all of those tireless servants of the Cause.

August 29th.  We had a special treat at our Book 6: Teaching the Cause study circle today (with pics), as two Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) joined and participated in a process which ostensibly aims to refine the manner and way we share the Message which is our Faith. They promised to come again, and I'm sure that they'll richly contribute to the experience.

August 28th.  P. is coming back to town on Friday and wanted me to announce it and collect suggestions and curry enthusiasm for events to mark the occasion. Below are some ideas.

August 27th.  Through special efforts by Don and Pauline Irving, world-renowned singer, Grant Hinden Miller preformed tonight in Ottawa! As usual, MartinsQuest.com is proud to display the pictures.

August 26th.  After dozens of grueling hours working on 295 pictures of summer school, I have build a dignified stand-alone site, and designed an automated action in Photoshop that adjusted the contrast, colors, size, and shadows. I then grouped the pictures into categories and created the web pages. Trust me, it was tough. But enough whining...here is the masterpiece.

August 24th.  Because of my new digital camera...pictures from today's picnic are already posted!

August 24th.  Rarely will I publish things twice on the same page, but Afshun's recent commentary into the whole tattoo foray must be seen by all:

   No -
Justin, Don't do it man. You don't know if you're going to be a Bahá'í forever! What if you want to convert to Judaism one day? How will you explain that to the leader of your future congregation? "Yeah, the tattoo artist really messed up on my Star of David, Rabbi Weinstein."

August 23rd.  As a way to feel good about my site and myself, I routinely keep track of the ranking my website gets in Google for various search terms. Scroll down this page to the left and see this listing. If you find a good #1 that I haven't listed, please let me know.

August 22nd. My brothers came back from their recent 7-week trip to Florida and my mom from her month-long vacation in Europe. The reason that everyone needs to be alert and stay clear is a little, yet powerful device that my brothers brought back. It has the potential to increase my powers ten-fold. With this scepter I wax invincible.

August 22nd.  I'm organizing a tackle football game at this Sunday's noon-time picnic at Vincent Massey Park. Hundreds are expected for $6 noon-time Lebanese food and soda and for dinner which is  only $3.  Last time in football, Sham, Andrew, and Sarah sincerely felt they bested me. Hogwash! Little did they know that I was just toying with them after purposely placing myself on the weaker team. Revenge will be enjoyable. All welcome!

August 22nd.  Still bitter that I couldn't decisively beat a such a feeble  opponent in arm-wrestling, I took the time (30 mins) to analyze what really happened.

August 19th.  I am expecting Homa, Sahba, and Sonya over in an hour or so to help me clean my house before momz gets back. I've already been with the latter two all day in a hastily arranged Book 6: Teaching the Cause study circle and the ensuing, all-expense-paid dinner, at their house. Update: After staying for 2 1/2 hours until 1:30am, having enjoyed jumping and wrasling on the trampoline, and Sahba having accepted the coveted bachelorette designation, this depleted trio has left to rest for tomorrow's intensive day of Institute training.

August 19th. There are still a few hours left to wish Mahtab a Happy 13th birthday.

August 18th.  Mahtab has just entered the fray of MartinsQuest knockers, with her contribution available here. Of note, despite my urgings to the contrary, she insists that quotes out of context should entail random words that I've spoken strung together by her imagination. So a quote like, "I'm a Mees lover!," could be from 3 different sentences! It should read, "...I'm...a...Mees...lover...! Oh well, it's not the intellectual dueling I had hoped for, but it is a step in the right direction. Please don't put any stock in any quote as they are wholly ficticious.

August 17th.  Pictures from Friday's house party are now available, along with newly available pictures from ROBSI!

August 16th.  I've been urging people to have competing sites with mine--creating venues where we can josh one another and have fun in front  of a web audience. Vafa (warning: sound) has boldly accepted, as has Marc. D@ve said ok as long as I don't use his picture or his name. Go figure. And Misagh obviously is swamped with pre-Med stuff. Stay tuned for the mud to start flying and for things to get really personal!
The last response I got was this: "I'm too lazy to start my own website, and I think you do a good enough job with your website to make people dislike you." -A (what a nice comment!)

August 16th.  About 20 people came out for my introvert's party which lasted until 5:00am for about 7 stalwart guests! Five (5) new people learned Roaké and you can expect their names to be soon added to the rankings. I've also just received my first visitors from South Africa and Spain--Welcome!

August 15th. My 8:00pm house party tonight is still in high gear. Despite the sporadic power outages, we will continue as planned with Risk, Roaké, Pizza, and Chill. 841-8999 for more info.

RSVPs - yes: Me, Marc, Carolyn, Elly, Shameem, Elham, Sonya, Sahba, Homa, Vafa, Andrew, Kamran, Nicolas, Alison, & Dr. Who.
RSVPs - no: (Close friends that can't come: Misagh) & contrary to rumors that are going around and two RSVPs I received, P.'s mom will not be at the party.

August 15th.  What were you doing at 4:11pm on the 14th? Submit your humorous or gut-wrenching stories soon—to be posted and enjoyed by all.

Stories:

 ●  Studying for the Verbal Reasoning section of the MCAT at the Carleton U library... first the generators on-site kicked in for a while, then they failed too. They kicked us out. I tried to get home by taking a bus through downtown, and got caught in the craziness there. -mees

 ●  There I was, about to make the biggest discovery humanity has ever seen... all I needed was to flip that one switch, to turn on my ether/cold-fusion-powered, perpetual-motion, light-speed-capable spacecraft... when the electricity went out, blowing an electrical fuse in my machine, causing an electrical fire to destroy my precious work of art, quenching humanity's dreams for a better tomorrow, and condemning us all to this measly existence for the rest of time... May God have mercy on our souls... -mees.

 ●  I just finished downloading a cracked version of an FTP program. Right after I installed it, my computer shut down. I thought that the program had infected my comp with a crazy virus and I'd have to buy a new one. To my relief it was only a massive power outage that effected millions. -v

 ●  I was swimming in the pool in my building when the lights went off and the power generator started. Not knowing what the hell is going on, I walked outside wet and still in my bathing suit and realized that I was locked out and had to remain there until someone came and got me. It took them 45 min to come and free me from the damn pool. -k.s.

 ●  I was running around shopping for shoes. Just as I was making up my mind, someone told me that they'd heard over the radio that there was a huge power failure between Toronto and New York and they were all wondering whether it was a terrorist attack. Fortunately, I was nowhere near the blacked-out area at the time (woohoo Quebec). My parents told me they just took the ferry across the Ottawa river to the Quebec side and had a nice dinner in a restaurant. -dan j

August 15th.  Despite repeated warnings against spoofing the names of people on forms on MartinsQuest.com, P. has continued with his habits. As such I banned his IP address from my site until I receive an apology that I can post on this site. I would like to thank those who are comfortable with who they are and do not resort to assuming someone else's identity.

August 12th.  So my brother Justin is thinking about getting a tattoo more permanent than the henna one you see below. Please offer your advice as to whether or not he should proceed with this course of action, and if so, what words, if any, should he get inscribed beneath (or around) the 9-pointed Bahá'í [sic] star?

Feedback:

  • Yes - I say go for it, but no need to get any words around it, the 9 pointed star looks good alone. -anon

  • Yes - Actually I don't care whether he gets it or not, I just want to say that that photo looks like it belongs in an urban fashion mag or something.  Justin's looking bad@$$. -d

  • Yes - Cause it looks amazing on his arm, he was born to get one! -j

  • Yes - Get it but with respect to the symbol, do not inscribe any words around and/or near it. -n

  • Yes - I say get it, they doesn't hurt that much in my opinion. I would go for no word around it though, would look cleaner that way.

  • Yes - Without words. -v

  • Yes - Hell ya! If he's proud about it then why not? -nick

  • Yes- YOU the man. GO for it! -k

  • Yes - He should get this tight @$$ tat right now! It looks so phat. *cough* -justin b.

  • Yes - I think that if he's really thinking about getting a tattoo, then what he has, would be a pretty good choice. Its personal to him, and its something that will show his faith to everyone. It can also be used as a good teaching tool. -anon

  • No - On the other hand, if he gets this, he has to really watch his behavior and what he says. Its basically the same as tattooing the word "Bahá'í" on your forehead for everyone to see. The strongest and most well-known Bahá'ís don't have to have a symbol of their faith on them, their faith is enough. (Also, when I think about people who have religious things tattooed on them, I think of drunk truck drivers.) You basically have to go with the one thing that [the Faith says] about the body that God gave you, "Treat your body as a temple." (And by the way, let Justin know that I really like his hair! :) -ibid.

  • No - As a friend of E____, I feel obliged to respond to this posting. I think I'll offer a 'no' for the reason that the nine-pointed star is not just a meaningless graphic design. It has spiritual implications that should not be 'used' just for the purpose of a nice-lookin' star on the skin. I can appreciate perhaps some of the intention to beautify the body with something significant. But it's also important to respect the possibility that others may consider the symbol sacred and are likely to take offense to its use in a way that can be perceived as exploitative. There you have it. The beauty of free will. I suppose this depends on the priorities of the individual... =)

  • No - Well Martin, you shouldn't let your brother to get a tattoo because in the Faith it states that you shouldn't mess with the way you look; changing how God creates you.

  • No - Hey Justin, I like it heaps now, but what happens when your weight changes? It'll expand or contract and then what? It won't ever remain the "same" and therefore won't look like the bomb - that's just from an aesthetics point of view... but going on from there... what is the point of the symbol? A representation of Faith? So, now, what happens if the symbol becomes distorted? Is that putting forth what you want ? Representing it in the way you do not want it represented?  Otherwise I think the henna is beautiful! And in terms of words? I have no idea... -anon

  • No - Justin, Don't do it man. You don't know if you're going to be a Bahá'í forever! What if you want to convert to Judaism one day? How will you explain that to the leader of your future congregation? "Yeah, the tattoo artist really messed up on my Star of David, Rabbi Weinstein." -afshun

No more comments are needed as someone has recently asked and received guidance from the Universal House of Justice:

Subject: Letter dated 19th August 2003 from the Universal House of Justice Re: Tattoos.

19 August 2003
Transmitted by email:

Dear Bahá'í Friend,

Your email letter of 17 August 2003 regarding tattoos has been received at the Bahá'í World Centre and referred to our Department for response.

In reply to your enquiry, nothing at all has been found in the Holy Texts
on the matter of tattooing. There is, of course, the following general counsel given by Bahá'u'lláh:

Let there be naught in your demeanor of which sound and upright minds would disapprove, and make not yourselves the playthings of the ignorant. Well is it with him who hath adorned himself with the vesture of seemly conduct and a praiseworthy character.
(The Kitáb-i-Aqdas, paragraph 159)

Generally, what is appropriate in such matters will clearly vary from culture to culture.

     With loving Bahá'í greetings,

            Department of the Secretariat

August 12th.  On Friday the 24th, at 8:00pm, I will be having a all-night house-crashing PARTY, replete with Risk, Roaké, Pizza, and Chill. Everyone is welcome and expected. This invitation is only being extended via my website...aka I have no plans of sending out an e-mail invitation...a way of thanking my loyal web community. Please bring a snack 'cause you know I'm po'. Also, RSVP por favor:

August 12th.  I've just spent the last 6 hours straight designing the analysis page for the recent summer school (3 hours on top composite graphic, 1 hour on the bottom one, and 2 hours on content and formatting). Usually I don't link to anything that I haven't completely finished, but due to how much time I've invested, and how proud I am of the results, I'll make an exception. The analysis is coming, but in the mean time...enjoy!

August 11th.  My pickiness in eating is near legendary...loathing both vegetables and vegetarians. Not blind to the reality of its more healthful nature, I guess I'm just venting at my own ignorant stubbornness. Here are some items that I would eat:

August 10th.  I hope that everyone likes the new entry portal to MartinsQuest.

August 10th.  A comprehensive review/summary/analysis of my first Canadian Bahá'í Summer School is on the way. I have to figure out how I'll present any non-complimentary thoughts while accurately maintaining the immense feeling of fun and fulfillment that I enjoyed. Incidentally, the host, who took a bazillion pictures, (a 'bazillion' is a billion times a billion) will be sending them to me on CD in 2 weeks or so for me to post exclusively on this website. Update: 295 pictures are on their way as I write this. Update: 295 corrupted pictures just arrived.

August 8th. So I'm off to Bahá'í Summer School until Sunday, but I'll leave you with a funny commercial (6.5MB - MOV encoding). Enjoy!

August 7th.  I just bought three domain names including:

August 7th.  I updated a few things on the Philosophical page and added a 'Time Machine' on this page right under the menu to the left, which details what I will be doing.

August 6th.  I just spent a whopping 18+ hours on the 4,500+ word write-up for how ROBSI summer camp went. This is a must see! Please read this before asking me anything about the camp! It's all here!
