Making My Own PizzaPizza
A novel experience by Martin Braithwaite
8 November 2004

Background: I dine at Pizza Pizza about three (3) times every five (5) days. In Gainesville my staple food was a daily 1,500+ calorie strawberry smoothie, and here it appears to shifted to pizza. There is only one kind I order at that has affectionately been named the 'Marty Pizza,' which consists of BBQ chicken, Bacon Crumble, and Bruschetta sauce. (Look for it in stores nationwide soon). My friend Negar and I, whom you may remember from the recent move, went to KFC for their BBQ Boneless Chicken wing promotion which we had partaken of the last time they offered it. When we arrived however we were delt the devastating blow that the promotion had ended a week earlier. Distraught, Negar treated me to make my own pizza in her family's store. It was an opportunity too good to pass up. So on top of the 'Marty' I added ham, ground beef, and a diced piece of green pepper and broccoli. (combined volume of latter two ingredients was size of the first thumb joint--used principally for colour effect.) Below is how this process unfolded.

The lowly dough before its glorification.

I had to be shown how to make the crust.

It looks like I've got it!

Just after I had thrown the dough in the air like an expert.

First a little regular sauce...

then add the Bruschetta sauce (tomato/onion)

I'm not sure if the lone employee felt entirely comfortable with what I was doing.

It was at this point that I began to get adventurous.

Voila!

Now the fun part...

(I'm not sure I said a word the whole time)

60% done and I can feel the pain beginning to set in.

Alas! This pizza is grrrrrrreeeaaaaaaaaaat...must continue!

Captures my mood perfectly. Thanks Negar for the experience!
