!! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE LISTENING !!
For a while now, I've lamented that so much of today's
hip hop and pop consists of phat beats and melodies, with absolutely
trashy and ridiculous lyrics. I longed for the day when capable Baha'i
artists could compose comparably phat beats with phat Baha'i or Baha'i-inspired
lyrics to go with them.
Rather than wait for that day, I decided to take up the gauntlet and try
my hand at using pre-existing beats and modifying the lyrics. Fortunately,
I follow in the footsteps of other great hip hop remixers, such as
Martin,
Vafa, and the Dalai Rama himself.
The following is my first attempt at remixing a popular song with Baha'i
lyrics. Please don't listen to it for what it is, but rather, for what it
could have been, and hopefully one day, will be. Many constraints,
including those of time, lack of availability of suitable voices, and lack
of decent recording equipment worked to prevent this piece from becoming
what I wanted it to be. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to someday
re-record it, and bring it closer to what I wanted it to be from the
start.
I like to think of myself as a poet at heart, so many of the lyrics
operate on a superficial as well as a deeper level. There are several
elements weaved into the piece whose import may not be immediately
apparent (for example, why would I want female vocals to appear in the
chorus? And why did I keep the same chorus lyrics as the original, while
merely changing the order that the chorus is delivered?) If time permits,
I would like to write a commentary to go along with this remix, briefly
discussing some elements of the piece. Of course, I won't release that too
quickly, lest I stifle your creative interpretations of my song.
This is my humble contribution to the 5 Year Plan. I dedicate this piece
to the Universal House of Justice, whose timely wisdom acts as a blueprint
for all of us 'spiritual soldiers'.
Enjoy!!

LYRICS
TITLE: Stand Up (the spiritual
fight) [Mees remix]
It's time to stand up, shoulder to shoulder, as soldiers of the Army of
Light,
When you move, I move (just like that) x3
Stand up y'all, come on, yo, where you at?
When I move, you move (just like that) x3
Stand up y'all, come on, yo, where you at?
A new day has dawned,
can't you see,
It's_the_time_to_stand_for_justice and un-i-ty.
LSA, keep it real, and it's so sweet,
Now we've got representation from the BIHE,
YEAH!
We ain't got nothin' to worry about,
let it all go to shambles in fear and doubt,
it ain't my problem this world's a stinkin' mess,
on my mind is all about dressin' up to impress
HEY!
This is a war of words, spirit, mind and soul
soldiers of the light unite, the truth unfold
...Your armor is love and your food is the Word,
Now raise your voice nice and loud, forever be heard!
what's wrong with u'r mind, don't waste your time,
and your diatribe of spiritual's a dozen's dime
don't be fools, cherish your very sight and life,
I'm spiritual being? Hah, man, ya right...
<Chorus "...live the life..." ... I can taste all the hatred, disunity,
and strife>
<Cut the music, use this time to talk> Step aside all those who are deaf
and blind
This order has to crumble down, get outta-the-way!
We're moving closer to Baha'u'llah with each passing day,
We can choose to ride the Ark of salvation together,
Or get beat on by hate and prejudice's stormy weather
Let me take this opportunity (to) congratulate those,
who saw so many opportunities and chose and arose,
to champion this great Cause in the eyes of the world,
And withstand persecution, the Faith's Message unfurls
I, look-into-the-eyes-of-the-Abha blessed,
I see the power of the spirit-ual conquest,
of the planet, the Earth, it's within our grasp,
Let's spread divine melodies, let's spread 'em fast!
--Come on, we gonna party tonight!
We'll use mouth-to-heart, bring the planet to life,
Don't be 'scoureged, if your gift is not received,
Shake off the dust, u'r Divine duty relieved!
<chorus "....now's our chance..." ... Baha'u'llah has come, yo, get
[stand] up and dance!>
Damn right all the haters wanna shut us down,
Put us down, so someone can extinguish our sound,
We were two Lights away from 27 letters,
Now we're using that knowledge to break free from the fetters!
Move over, Meesa's got somethin to say,
Do it now 'cause tomorrow ain't promised today,
Work with me, let's become One with God's Beat,
God's Will be done, the promise fulfilled, complete!
<chorus "I move wit'ch you...." "We all choose teams and I choose you...">

Mees,
Thanks for making Vafa and I look like monkeys. No really, you did
a fantastic job on your rap and should be proud of your self on the
one hand for raising the spiritual bar and on the other hand ashamed
that you would deprive the world of your gifts for so long! You da

Man! BIG UP! All the WAY!!! FAIZI FRESH GIVES
HIS TWO THUMBS UP!!!! Listen, I gots to say, I sent the song to over
100 peepz. We will see how many more comments come through. Its good
to see this kinda thing happen. Maybe we can stir up a Baha'i Hip
Hop scene nationwide, and get peepz getting together, through the
medium of hip hop, in order to share the Word of God to the rest of
humanity. The Day of Light is here, where you at?

Woah,
That is sick,
Your lyrics are phat,
Hip hop's the stolen medium,
You takin' it back!
Keep rhymin' the revelation,
Show this corrupted generation,
There's so much hate in the present day,
We gotta start givin' meaning to what we say.
So word to my man Misagh from the O-dot,
Love for every brother and sister, is what he got,
He's livin' the reason why Baha'u'llah came,
Peace to all the MCs who are doin' the same.
With mad respect,
Will
